The Final Slice

The Final Slice was developed for Junior/Senior Collaborative Games Development 2022. In this Roguelike you play as a slice of bread on a quest to become the Ultimate Sandwich. I took on the role of Senior Tech for this project.

My Contributions

  • Created player character systems and abilities.

  • Created a semi-procedural room spawning system that could be altered through data tables by designers.

  • Assigned tasks to Junior Tech members and assisted them when necessary.

  • Communicated with Design and Art Leads about scope and engine implementation.

  • Rigged and Animated some characters with very basic animations.

Outcomes

  • I got to create a room system that spawned in rooms within certain parameters. The experience of creating this and ensuring it was exposed to designers was nice.

  • I got to take on a senior role in a team and I now have more perspective on how teams should be run.

  • As we lacked animators, I got the opportunity to learn more about the animation pipeline from creating some basic animation assets.

Critique

  • The player character was set up with prototype abilities and controls while waiting on animations, as they never came and the systems weren’t replaced the player feel is slightly clunky.

  • When handing the room system to the Art team, I should have accompanied it with videos on how to use it and show how it would be during gameplay. There were some minor issues with meshwork visibility because of this.
